Instructions:
- Preheat your grill to medium heat.
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
- Place the chicken breasts on the preheated grill and cook for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the chicken is cooked through.
- Brush the chicken breasts with the barbecue sauce mixture, making sure to coat them evenly. Continue grilling for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the sauce has caramelized and created a slightly charred crust on the chicken.
- Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Using two forks, shred the chicken into small pieces.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for a minute or until lightly toasted.
- Place a generous amount of the shredded BBQ chicken on the bottom half of each bun. Top with your desired toppings such as sliced pickles, coleslaw, and sliced red onion. Cover with the top half of the bun.
- Serve the BBQ pulled chicken sandwiches warm and enjoy!
Tips:
- You can cook the chicken breasts in the oven if you don't have a grill. Simply bake them at 400°F (200°C) for about 20-25 minutes or until cooked through, then proceed with the recipe.
- If you prefer a spicier flavor, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to the barbecue sauce mixture.
